How to Battle a Breakout!!!
- Bummer: Flaking Blemish – Resist the urge to remove skin as it flakes. Instead, rub a bit of creamy cleanser onto the pimple in a circular motion. Dab on a 1% hydro-cortisone cream to further calm skin, then apply a creamy concealer and powder to set the coverage.
- Bummer: Pimple Forming – When you feel that unwanted pressure under the skin, wrap an ice cube in a paper towel and apply to the affected area for 20 minutes. Repeat two to three times during the day. Essential oils such as tea tree oil, which are absorbed into the skin, can also be soothing.
- Bummer: A Zit Before A Big Event – Visiting a dermatologist for a cortisone injection can make an unwanted lump vanish in about a day. Or apply a hot compress to help it dissipate more quickly. Dabbing on a topical hydrocortisone cream like Cortaid can also help, as can ingredients like sulfur and calamine. During the day camouflage with a concealer that contains pore-cleansing salicylic acid.
- Bummer: Woke up with one – The immediate fix is to use a drop of tea-tree oil, then apply ice wrapped in a washcloth followed by a topical hydro cortisone cream. A bigger fix: switch to a night cream that’s not as heavy, and avoid greasy hair products (or a dirty phone). Sleep on your back; lying on your face can cause flare-ups.
