How-To Give Yourself A Facial At Home: With Professional Techniques!!!

A do-it-yourself facial may not incorporate professional-strength peels or the therapeutic benefits of massage, but it can still be a relaxing way to treat yourself and take better care of your skin. To do this effectively, make sure that you have at least thirty minutes of uninterrupted time to yourself.

Let’s Get Started

  1. Cleanse and Exfoliate your skin. Emulsify your makeup with a cream cleanser, then wash your face with a foaming cleanser. You can use a cotton pad to exfoliate while you cleanse, or use a facial scrub as an additional step. Rinse well with tepid water and please pat dry (don’t rub)!       images-7
  2. Steam Your Face. Soak a couple of hand towels in hot water, carefully wring them out, and apply to your face. Make sure that the towels are not too hot (they should feel comfortable on your skin) and avoid the eye area. A few drops of your favorite essential oil added to the basin of hot water makes for a wonderful aromatherapy effect while the towels are steaming your skin. Wrap one towel in the shape of a horseshoe, centering it at your chin and up both sides of your face. Let it sit for a few minutes, then change the towel and repeat. Lying down is the easiest way of keeping it in place.        download-2
  3. Massage. This can be done for one to five minutes, depending on how much time you have. You can use your favorite moisturizer, applying a bit more than usual to give your fingers tips some slippage. When you are finished, wipe off the remaining cream with the wet towel.images-2
  4. Apply A Clay Mask. Now that your pores have been steamed and your facial muscles relaxed, put on a clay mask to purify and deeply cleanse your skin. A wonderful tip is to add a pea-sized amount of your facial moisturizer to the mask (just blend the two products in the palm of your hand). This will keep the clay active and moist and prevent it from hardening to the point where starts to crack. The mask will be just as effective, but more comfortable to keep on and easier to rinse off. You can also mist a clay mask with toner to keep it moist. Relax with the mask on for ten minutes. For a nice spa-like touch, place chilled cucumber slices or chilled chamomile tea bags over your eyes and lie down.clay mask
  5. Apply A Hydrating Mask. Rinse off the clay mask and apply a hydrating mask for ten minutes. It should contain ingredients that have humectant properties such as aloe vera, glycerin, or sodium hyaluronate to bring moisture to the skin, and emollients such as shea butter or other natural oils to lock in the moisture.download
  6. Moisturize Your Skin. After rinsing off the hydrating mask, finish by applying serum, moisturizer, neck and eye creams, and don’t forget lip balm!
